Abstract
In the present chapter, latest advancements in extracting natural bioactive chemicals from plant-based sources is thoroughly propounded. Bioactive compounds of plant origin are considered natural chemical compounds that can be traced in plants. Due to the potential health benefits, environmentally friendly aspects, as well as economical pros, extraction of bioactive compounds has been a very interesting topic for researchers in various chemical, pharmaceutical, and food-based industries. Different conventional and novel extraction approaches and methods are suggested, but there has still been no economical and beneficial method to act as a model to extract natural bioactive compounds from various plants. The key parameters to determine extraction methods besides having the proper scientific skills are understanding the nature of plant-based models and the structure of bioactive compounds. This chapter aims to discuss the novel advances in supercritical fluid extraction techniques, as well as the basic standards of extracting bioactive compounds from natural plant constituents like herbs and spices.
